Kate Mulligan - New Student Representative on BoT

I'm Kate Mulligan, and at the moment I'm in Year 11.  I'm a happy approachable person. I'm easy to talk to and, not only will I listen to your ideas, I want to help improve them before they go to the Board.  This job will let me get to know many of you, and I'd treat it as, not only a way to help student ideas be heard well, but also to have the opportunity to interact and work with other students in our school.  I'm already involved in many parts of the school, and therefore have the interpersonal skills that I believe are needed for this job.

Having Fun in the Snow

MtHuttSkiDay

Some of our International Students were lucky enough to be able to go up to Mt Hutt for a day in the snow. It was the first time for Hannah on skis and Yuina on the snowboard and apart from feeling a little tired by the end of the day they had a great time. It was a beautiful day and the fresh snow made skiing and snowbaording easy.

Celebrating Student Success

Flava_Certificate

Art_work

Congratulations to our Art Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 for taking out the top Visual Art prize at the FLAVA Festival in Timaru on 7th July.

Welcome to our School

HannahHannah Scholze has recently arrived from Germany to study with us at Geraldine High School. Before she left, she found it hard to actually believe that she would be coming and was surprised and sad to find herself at the airport saying goodbye to her best friend and family.

However since arriving she has been happily surprised to find how helpful and friendly everyone has been. She thinks New Zealanders are nice and relaxed.

We are sure that during her six months at Geraldine High School, Hannah will soon find new friends and her English will improve.

Welcome to our school, Hannah!

FLAVA Festival of Performing Arts

Performing ArtsTe Moana – The Ocean

These woodcuts are based on Te Moana.

The visual elements in the prints have come from a study of kowhaiwhai patterns, some Pacifica Art and Contemporary Art associated with the ocean.

Personal images generated by each student were also incorporated into some designs.

Each student had to combine all these elements in a series of three sketches and then choose one to develop into a finished print.

In the production of the prints students had to master cutting, inking and printing skills.

Farewell Assembly

We have just farewelled some of our visiting students with their last assembly. Nina and Marie both spoke about their year at Geraldine High School and thanked their teachers and all their friends for making the year an unforgettable one!
Also leaving us and speaking to the school was Heather and Aysegul. Heather talked about how welcoming she had found Geraldine and Aysegul wanted to thank everyone for making her year special.
We wish them all safe travels back to their countries and hope to see them again some day soon! Ka kite ano!
