Welcome Back to Term 1, 2026 – Growing Stronger, Together
Tēnā koutou katoa and welcome back to the start of Term 1. I hope you have all enjoyed a restful and refreshing summer break and are returning to Geraldine High School feeling ready for the year ahead. A special welcome to our new students and whānau – we are delighted that you have joined our kura and look forward to getting to know you as part of our community.
As we begin 2026, we also begin an important new chapter for our school with the introduction of our refreshed school values:

These values sit at the heart of our vision, “Growing stronger, together”, and will guide how we learn, lead, and care for one another. For Term 1, our explicit focus is on Belonging – Tūrangawaewae. At its core, belonging is about every student and staff member feeling noticed, named, known, and needed at Geraldine High School.
So what does belonging look like in action?
It begins with our Pōwhiri, where we formally welcome new students, staff, and whānau into our school community in a way that reflects respect, connection, and shared responsibility. It is strengthened through House Spirit, as students represent their houses with pride during our Swimming Sports and Athletics, supporting one another, celebrating effort, and building positive relationships across year levels. Belonging is also shown in everyday moments – how we greet one another, how we include others, and how we look out for those who may need extra support.
A strong sense of belonging also supports learning. Starting the year well means establishing positive study habits, routines, and expectations early. To support this, we are pleased to continue our Homework Club, running every Wednesday afternoon from 3.00–4.30pm in the library. This is a warm, inclusive space where students can get help with their learning, work alongside others, and build confidence in their study skills. And yes – there will be hot milo and chocolate biscuits to help keep everyone fuelled!
As we move into the year ahead, I encourage all students to embrace opportunities to connect, challenge themselves, and show resilience when learning feels difficult. To our whānau, thank you for your ongoing support and partnership – together we make a real difference for our young people.
