Sports at GHS

Action, teamwork and school spirit

Geraldine High School’s sports programme is led by dedicated coordinators who bring years of experience as players, coaches and umpires to every team and event. Students can choose from over 20 sports, including athletics, basketball, hockey, rugby and more to suit every interest and ability. Opportunities range from weekly club competitions to school, regional and national championships, ensuring all learners can compete at their own level. Our modern gymnasium is also available for community group bookings, extending our facilities beyond the school day.

Quick‑link menus and direct contact details make it easy for students and whānau to find schedules, fees and uniform requirements. Participation in GHS sport fosters teamwork, resilience and school spirit, uniting our community on and off the field.

Sports Committee

Driving growth in school sport

The Sports Committee brings staff, students and whānau together to support and enhance sport at GHS. It liaises with local clubs and organisations to break down barriers and expand opportunities for all participants. Committee members organise fundraising events from sausage sizzles at term‑start carnivals to the annual Ambrose Golf Tournament to finance gym upgrades and new equipment.

They work closely with Sports Co‑ordinators to develop high‑performance pathways and manage entries into regional and South Island competitions. Recent initiatives include planning a fundraiser series for the new gym and student‑led campaigns to boost participation rates. All students and families are encouraged to join the Committee, share ideas and help shape the future of sport at Geraldine High School
